Adventurers returning East helped create a mystique of the West when they returned home wearing a "Boss of the plains," Stetson Cowboy hat.
#1 Quality was the highest grade available in Stetson hats at the time. Probably a blend of beaver, muskrat and coypu. This trademark was used from the 19th century up until the mid-twentieth century.

The original design is very simple cowboy hat. High-crowned hats cowboy western wear traditional wide-brimmed hat.

ReplyDeleteActually it is incorrect that the No 1 Quality was the "highest grade available." In fact the No 1 Quality was a middle of the road quality. The Extra Quality and Real Nutria were priced higher. So was the 3X, 4X, 5X and 7X. The only cheaper hat than No 1 Quality Stetson had were Select Quality and Extra Quality. So it went like this...
